NZ Oil Exploration: Brownlee Touts NZ As Destination For Petroleum Exploration
April 13th, 2010
Energy and Resources Minister Gerry Brownlee will be extending his international contacts in the energy sector at the 12th International Energy Forum in Mexico. Associated with Forum, the International Energy Business Forum brings together Ministers and chief executives of leading energy companies for a dialogue on global energy security.
Before he left for Mexico last Saturday, Brownlee said the IEF is the world’s largest gathering of energy Ministers, with countries participating in the forum accounting for more than 90% of global oil and gas supply and demand. The goal of the meeting is to build confidence around issues such as energy security and develop a better understanding of the underlying energy issues affecting the world. The minister and his officials are expected to talk of the Govt’s action plan to maximise gains from NZ’s petroleum resources, including opening new exploration permits across two large offshore areas, the Raukumara and Northland Basins, for bidding. Brownlee’s message will be NZ has considerable petroleum potential and is a highly attractive global destination for petroleum investment. One of the points in the Govt’s action plan for petroleum development was to develop a co-ordinated investment strategy aimed at raising the profile of the petroleum sector and signalling Govt support for exploration and development activity.
